There are 44 countries in Europe today, according to the United Nations. Here is a list of countries in Europe:

Note that the status of some of these countries as European or Asian is a matter of perspective and can be disputed. For example, Russia and Georgia are sometimes considered to be both in Europe and Asia, as they straddle the traditional boundary between the two continents.
